Land Acknowledgement
At PEACE NW, we acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the Chinook Nation and the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, who have stewarded this land in the past, present, and future. The Chinook Nation includes people from the Lower Chinook, Clatsop, Kathlamet, Wahkiakum, and Willapa Tribes. The Cowlitz Indian Tribe includes people from the Upper Cowlitz and the Lower Cowlitz. We give thanks to these Native communities and honor their Indigenous wisdom and knowledge today.
Land acknowledgment is not a new practice developed by colonial institutions it is a deeply rooted tradition for many Native communities and nations. Acknowledging the land is a powerful way to show respect and honor the Indigenous Peoples on whose lands we work and live. It is a step toward truth-telling, resisting erasure, and fostering deeper relationships with Native communities.
